Crete's northeast coast. Phāea Cretan Malia belongs to Design Hotels and puts Cretan heritage next to contemporary hospitality: low-rise architecture, Mediterranean gardens, open spaces that work with the island's landscape. There are 204 accommodations in all, across rooms, bungalows and suites. Local materials run through them — Cretan marble, chestnut wood, rattan — with earthy tones, handcrafted furnishings and botanical artwork by Greek artists. Many have a spacious balcony or a garden terrace. Three venues cover the food, each with its own cuisine. Mouries cooks traditional dishes over open fire, Mezze leans Levant, and Almyra does fresh Italian by the beach. An organic kitchen garden on the grounds supplies seasonal produce for the farm-to-table cooking. The Kids' Club sits within the gardens, with indoor and outdoor areas, a garden of its own, eco activities and a reading hut. Children meet Cretan culture there through cooking, crafts, nature play and storytelling. The Effortless All-Inclusive program folds dining, comfort and experiences into the package, drawing on Cretan hospitality and culinary tradition. Yoga and meditation sessions, Cretan cooking classes and botanical garden walks are all open to guests. The Phāea Farmers Feast at Bostani is a farm-to-table dinner: guests gather the ingredients from the garden and eat under the stars.
