Arolithos Traditional Village Hotel is built as a cluster of buildings in the mountains outside Heraklion. Constructed in the late 1980s, it was designed to reproduce an authentic Cretan village, with care taken to recreate the atmosphere of times gone by. Bedrooms blend modern comforts with traditional touches. The local taverna hosts Cretan nights with Greek food and folk dances, and social events run through summer in the open-air restaurant. Nearby, white houses with turquoise-painted windows line streets of old-fashioned stores, including a blacksmith.
